Citrine's name derives from the French “citron”, that is, “lemon”, which describes its typical lemon yellow color.
The most precious specimens of this beautiful gemstone are found in Brazil, Madagascar, Uruguay, and Mozambique.
Zambia and Tanzania provide the so-called Lemon Citrine.
For the ancients it was the stone of happiness. Citrine was used as a talisman against evil thoughts and as an antidote to reptile venom.
Its applications were of diverse nature, especially in the field of medicine. It was effectively believed that it could suspend digestion and protect the body from poisonous substances, plague, cure melancholy and diabetes.
Experts in crystal therapy (or gem therapy) maintain that Citrine stimulates the mental faculties and creativity, that it develops intuition and self-confidence, increasing control of one's own emotions.
